You’ve probably heard someone say, “Just use ketchup, it’s basically tomato sauce.” 😳 Not only is this completely wrong in the kitchen, but it’s also important to realize that ketchup isn’t just different — it’s a lot less healthy.

Everything That’s Not Healthy About Ketchup

What’s Really in Ketchup? 🧪

Ketchup is more than just tomatoes. It’s packed with sugar, vinegar, and additives that turn it into the sweet, tangy sauce we love with fries 🍟. In fact, in many brands, sugar is one of the top ingredients, often in the form of high-fructose corn syrup. This sweetener is known for contributing to weight gain, increasing the risk of diabetes, and promoting unhealthy cholesterol levels. Just two tablespoons of ketchup can contain around 8 grams of sugar — about two teaspoons! 😱

Difference Between Ketchup and Tomato Sauce

Hidden Calories ⚖️

Though it may seem like a small, harmless dip, ketchup can sneak a lot of empty calories into your diet. Those calories don’t come with the healthy fiber or vitamins you’d get from fresh tomatoes. Instead, you’re consuming sugars and preservatives that don’t benefit your body at all. 🍅⚠️
